Fryday the 13th.

Boo! Nothing bad happened to me yet. There I go testing the God's of the thirteenth planet to reign havoc opon me and my loved ones. Come and get me. I will regret this. Shit follows me around.

I went shopping after work, and bought the necessities. First I went to the vet's and bought a huge muttha bottle of Glucosamine for the canine species, and will start to give this to the Penny Loafer on a on going basis. She is having such a hard time, it's time I take this in my own hands and make some changes. When Penny was diagnosed with arthoarthertis (don't trust that spelling) ...he said we could follow up with the Glucosamine, but even with the med's it is getting worse, so I took it upon myself to go there and get some. This is not my peppy little Penny anymore, and it's so sad. She wants to run, and when she does, her poor little right leg goes to shit. So, we do everything we can to keep her warm and safe and not bounding down the stairs when she hears a leaf fall. Lately, she has not even cared about the that...she seems to know her boundaries, and listens to me when I say my famous words UH UH! when she is about to run down the deck steps to tree a squirrel. I guess you know by now how much I loves that girl. Anyway, we do what we have to do...and I could regale with tales of how I have taught her hand signals and she follows my lead with a pointed finger. We are a team....sigh.... it will get better.

Busy weekend ahead, we have a 60th. Anniversary to go tomorrow for Gord's Auntie and Uncle, it should be fun to see all the old people again...yeah...like I'm not. But seriously Gord's family has good genes and they live forfucking ever. One of his uncles is 98. And still driving. Heh...I don't know, but from what I can gather from his son, he only drives to the Community Centre which is only two blocks from his house...in a tiny town. He still lives in his own house and has people coming over to help him with meals and laundry and stuff.. but the guy is as bright as the day I met him. Uncle Albert. Nice man.

So, tomorrow I'm going to go and harass the ole folks. Gord's Tante Tina will be there, she is 92 and I will try to out drink her. Not that is possible. But, I have been in training for a month now, and I have been trying to drink a litre of wine every day. Before we go tomorrow I will eat 30 pounds of pasta, a leg of lamb, and a shank of beef. I'm going to drink her under the table. That old broad is not going to get the better of me. And in between she will have some riveting stories to tell me. I just love her. Then we will have dessert and coffee.. with some Kahlua in it. She is such a mensch.

Getting together will all the old folks is so much more fun than running after kid-to gethers. Ya'll go and have fun, ya hear? And take loads of pics to show us!

Hi, Joan. I'm one of your "lerkers! lol! I enjoy your sense of humor.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you that I have had great success with arthritis in my older dogs with Rimadyl---I get a bottle from the vet. You might want to try it. Also, is it possible that your baby's leg is out of joint?
I know what it is to love a dog. I hope all goes well with yours.

Well I'm glad the boogie man didn't get you on the 13th and that all is the same with you as it always is.

Old people smell like booze all the time anyway. Don't they?

Brenda, we had a great time, but I kept on tripping over peoples walkers...oy

Hi Anon. Welcome
Hey..speak out anytime..I don't bite. Thanks for the info. I have googled a lot lately and came across Rimadyl ..Penny is taking Metacam, but after a work out her leg is not good. I hear you when you say her leg may be out of joint, because when this all started last fall, we had just come back from a walk..or should I say a walk from hell, because she tries to to kill every dog we meet, and walks on her hind legs while I am pulling on her halter..trying to keep the peace. And that was the day she wouldn't try to climb the stairs. And it slowly turned into what we are experiencing today. Her xrays came out clear, except some artheritis in her knee joint. So the vet deemed that to be the problem. I don't know. Vet's like doctors don't like to be TOLD what to do, so you have to tread carefully when you say you don't think this is the problem. So, I will play this out for another month and if things don't get better, I will get a second opinion. Thanks for your advise.

Curtis, ...yes some things never change. Do I smell Barbeque on the grill? I'm hankering for some smoked turkey.

Pete...yes "I" do. Wanna come and have sniff. Right now I'm drinking a well aged wine I made 4 weeks ago, usually I only let it age 2 weeks, so I probably won't smell that bad. Or, do you smell worse the longer you let it age? If that is the case...I stink man.

Joan, Penny may just have a sprain and that wouldn't show up on xray. I have used DMSO successfully on lame dogs, too. You can get this stuff at any health store and dilute it to half DMSO and half water. Just pat it gently on the hurting spots. (I use this stuff on myself, too!! ---I'm almost 77 and getting a bit rusty! It works!)
I have two 7 year old pitbulls and they are also ready to fight other dogs, so I walk them on leash--one at a time!--- mostly in the downtown area where there are no loose dogs. --and they pull, too! And I take them---one at a time ---with me in the car. They both love people and are sweet dogs, not what you read about in the news!

Anon...The doc also told me she might have a tear in the joint, but he didn't know. he couldn't see it. What exactly is DMSO? So I can get and try it? This afternoon for example, she was walking fine, we went down to the back yard and I threw the ball ..girly style...and she bounded off and came back hobbiling ... after 4 days of good days, which only because I didn't let her play outside. Do they have doggy tensor bandages...oy...I'm at my wits end.

Me again! DMSO is short for a big long name that I never can remember. But use Google for "DMSO" and you can get lots of information. Also Google Dr. Jacobs of OHSO in Portland, OR, as he is the inventer of the stuff. (Maybe that's OSHO---short for Oregon Health & Science Organization. Whatever! It's made from wood products and was used first for horses and dogs. Then people started using it on themselves and liked the results. It is now legally sold in health stores. I needed it back in the 1980's for my mother and had to beg it from a salesman for vet supplies! When patted on, it penetrates into the body, so never put it on over any other medication! I have used it on my shoulders and back for years with no problems---just blessed relief!
I have used it on my dogs, not my current youngsters, my old dogs in the past!

Joan, I just thought of it----your vet no doubt knows all about DMSO. Ask him to give you some to try.
